The show's popularity continued to rise, and it even had fans in the White House. In 1985, when character Augusta Lockridge was blinded following a tunnel collapse, Ronald Reagan sent actress Louise Sorel a letter saying he and Nancy were praying for her and hoped she recovered. Santa Barbara has won 24 Daytime Emmy Awards and was nominated 30 times for the same award. The show also won 18 Soap Opera Digest Awards, and won various other awards. In 1993, NBC replaced Santa Barbara with game shows Scrabble and Scattergories. Shortly before the program was canceled by NBC, New World Television tried to shop Santa Barbara to other broadcast and cable networks, but failed to find one that would air the show.

Must Be Santa, a 1999 Canadian television film, portrays the story of Floyd Court who is selected as the successor to Santa Claus. Robert Sherrin produced the film while Brad Turner was director. It was made more expensive when production of the film was interrupted in February 1999 by a strike of the CBC's technicians. Production resumed in May after a labor settlement. Joe Flaherty makes an appearance as his SCTV character Count Floyd. The film won a Gemini Award in 2000 for Best Visual Effects. Universal Studios provided international distribution.

Santa vs. the Snowman 3D is a half-hour computer-animated short, created by O Entertainment and produced by Steve Oedekerk. Originally made as a television special, the film was later presented in IMAX 3D theaters during the holiday seasons of 2002-2006. It was released on DVD by Universal Studios. The package included 3D glasses, and the program offered optional 2D or 3D viewing. Despite three bonus features including an interactive game narrated by Oedekerk, the DVD lacked any kind of featurette or commentary. The film featured the voice talents of Jonathan Winters, Ben Stein, Victoria Jackson, Marc Decarlo, and David Floyd. It is narrated by Don LaFontaine. There are various nods to other films, like a scene of ice-made AT-AT's, mostly resembling the ones from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
